The authors surveyed 17,511 pediatric patients among total 67,290 ones who visited the emergency rodm of Chonnam National University Hospital during the 5 year period from Jan. 1, 1978 to Dec. 31, 1982. 1)70% of total pediatric patients consisted of injury and poisoning, infectious diseases and diseases of the respiratory system.

Using atomic absorption spectrophotometer, serum-and urine zinc levels of healthy children aging 4.7 to 6.9 years, and of various infectious diseases, including acute viral hepatitis， tuberculosis, salmonellosis, and shigellosis were determined.
